Watch: MS Dhoni’s reaction immediately after he failed to connect last ball for six is heartbreaking

A small clip of Dhoni’s response right after he missed the final ball for six has been found.

It was so close, but so far, for Chennai Super Kings, as MS Dhoni came close to doing what he does best—finishing games for his team. At 41 years old, Dhoni overcame his age and, with an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls, helped CSK win their IPL 2023 match against Rajasthan Royals when it looked like they were going to lose. With 21 runs needed, Dhoni hit the third and fourth balls that Sandeep Sharma threw over the boundary. This cut the number of runs needed from 21 to 7 from 3. After the next two balls were both singles, CSK needed a six to win and a four to force a Super Over. Dhoni would get this done nine times out of ten, but last night was the one time he couldn’t. Sandeep hit the perfect yorker, and Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja could only get a single.

After the match, Dhoni seemed like himself again, talking with his friends and players from the other team. But a small clip of Dhoni’s response right after he failed to hit the last ball for six has been found. Sandeep’s line and length were perfect as he came around the wicket, and if there had been even the smallest chance for Dhoni to hit it hard, he would have. But that ball was so well hit that even the great MSD couldn’t get it away.

When Dhoni tried to get under the ball and saw that he could only get a single, he made a small frown. It looked like Dhoni was going to have another great finish, like he did last season against MI, but it wasn’t meant to be. Sandeep put his arms up in the air in a way that showed more relief than joy. Dhoni, on the other hand, looked like he was having one of his many “what could have been” moments.

See how frustrated Dhoni became when he couldn’t score the winning run down below:

Dhoni has been on fire in the IPL 2023, smashing 58 runs off 27 balls with six sixes and looking in imperious form. On his way to scoring 5000 runs in the IPL, he made a brief appearance in the opening game for Gujarat Titans and hit sixes off the first two balls he faced from Mark Wood while playing for Delhi Capitals. On Wednesday, Dhoni played in his 200th IPL match, and he could have made the milestone even more memorable by dropping another gem during the post-match presentation ceremony. However, he didn’t let that stop him. Asked, “What’s the big difference between 199 and 200?” he pondered the question.
