Warner is silenced by Gavaskar’s tongue-in-cheek comment following LSG’s victory over DC.

Warner remained optimistic about DC’s homecoming for the following IPL 2023 match, but was hushed by a sarcastic remark from India veteran Sunil Gavaskar.

David Warner’s comeback to Indian Premier League (IPL) captaincy after two years got off to a rough start on Saturday when his Delhi Capitals were blown out by the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. Warner made a half-century as Delhi attempted to chase 194, but it wasn’t enough since England bouncer Mark Wood took five wickets and shook the DC batting order. Warner, on the other hand, was optimistic about the team’s return to their home country for the next IPL 2023 encounter until he was silenced by a sarcastic remark from India icon Sunil Gavaskar.

Warner can’t wait to return to New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium while sporting the DC uniform in their next match against the champion Gujarat Titans. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull questioned the Australian opener about his expectations for the New Delhi stadium, and Warner reflected on his experience playing there in 2011 before he moved his team’s base to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the IPL. Gavaskar responded to Warner’s statement with an epic rebuttal, bringing up the Border-Gavaskar Test series and the match in New Delhi last month that Australia lost due to a horrific collapse.

Warner: “We’ll be back in Delhi soon to perform for our local fans. Obviously, a batting wicket. The Delhi I visited in 2011 was quiet and sluggish. I finally spotted some lush green grass on that floor. There will be some dew overnight. It would be great if we could play on a decent wicket in all respects.”

Gavaskar: “David, when was your most recent visit to Delhi, in 2011-2012? A month ago, you were there.”

Warner: “Well, I’m aware of that. It was a red ball with a distinct pitch. Let’s disregard that.”

Australia’s quiet was followed by a peal of laughter as Doull cut him off, stating, “Sunny is being cheeky here.”

Delhi will only have one day to prepare for their next encounter, when they host GT on April 4.
