Shardul was previously a large youngster who weighed around 85 kg, and former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar advised him to get his hair cut so that he could appear on television playing the game for the country.
He was chosen to represent Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in 2013, but he was harshly chastised for his overweight size.
Thakur received coaching from none other than explosive fast bowler Glenn McGrath, who helped him fine-tune his talents.
Kings XI Punjab signed him for INR 20 lakh during the 2014 IPL auctions, although he didn’t play until 2015.
