The opening game of the IPL 2023 will feature Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Following is their most likely starting lineup.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where the Delhi Capitals will play their opening match against KL Rahul’s Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG), David Warner will take the helm once again. The newly anointed DC captain will be hoping that his team can finally win the prestigious trophy that has eluded them for the previous 15 seasons. Following Rishabh Pant’s injury-related absence, Warner was chosen the DC captain.
Delhi made it to the top four in 2019, 2020, and 2021 after six consecutive seasons without making the playoffs, placing second in 2020. In 2022, they came in fifth place.
Shardul Thakur was dealt by Delhi to the Kolkata Knight Riders in advance of the 2023 auction in exchange for Aman Khan. Tim Seifert, Mandeep Singh, Ashwin Hebbar, and KS Bharat were also freed. During the December mini-auction, DC made a number of intriguing selections. In order to improve the team, the club enlisted the help of players such bowler Mukesh Kumar, veteran batter Manish Pandey, and hard-hitting Englishman Phil Salt. Along with replacing Tim Seifert, who had been fired, Rilee Rossouw was also hired.
With a well-balanced combination of youth and experience, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly returning as Director of Cricket, and Ricky Ponting remaining as the team’s coach, DC will want to make this season a memorable one and win their first IPL championship.
Delhi has a formidable batting lineup for the upcoming edition and has a great chance to score a lot of runs. David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Rovman Powell, Rilee Rossouw, and Axar Patel are just a few players that can hit the ball out of the park.
But when the team’s normal captain Rishabh Pant was forced to miss all of 2023 due to injuries acquired in a terrible vehicle accident, it was a serious setback.
Abhishek Porel, a Bengal wicketkeeper who is 20 years old, has taken Pant’s place in the Delhi team. Both Manish Pandey and Sarfaraz Khan have maintained wickets in domestic limited-overs cricket in India, so one of them will probably do so in this situation. It’s unlikely that Porel will begin the match.
Although DC does have the option of using Phil Salt as their foreign wicketkeeper, doing so might make room in the starting Lineup for Rovman Powell to be cut. The Caribbean explosive batter, who can score big runs and alter the course of a game in a heartbeat, is a crucial component of the DC middle order.
The bowling lineup for the Caps includes players like Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahman, and Lungi.
The three spin bowling possibilities are Kuldeep Yadav, Lalit Yadav, and Axar Patel.
Rillee Russouw, Anrich Nortje, and Lungi Ngidi won’t be available for DC in the opening game because they are Proteas national team duties.
DC picked the XI to face LSG.
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw are the starters.
Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan (wk), and Rovman Powell are in the middle order.
All-Rounders: Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel
Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, and Chetan Sakariya are bowlers.
