“Rishabh has gotten better since Dhoni…” This is Ganguly’s huge claim about the “irreplaceable” DC star during the IPL 2023.
Sourav Ganguly, an Indian cricket legend, thinks that Rishabh Pant’s injury will give young players who want to step up a chance to do so during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, when Pant won’t be playing because of his injury. The Delhi Capitals put veteran opener David Warner in charge of the team after Pant was ruled out for the whole IPL season. The Delhi Capitals finished second in the 2020 season of the cash-rich league.
Pant, who used to be the captain of DC, is going to miss the whole 2023 season because he was hurt in a serious car accident last year. Abishek Porel, a wicketkeeper and batter for Bengal, has been chosen to replace Pant in the IPL in 2023. Pant-less DC, who are trying to win their first IPL title in the league’s 16th season, lost their first game to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday.
Ganguly said that a player like Pant can’t be replaced in franchise tournaments before DC’s next game against the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023. The former captain of India also said that Pant improved a lot after the legendary wicketkeeper MS Dhoni ended his long international career.
“It’s clear that the team will miss Rishabh, but this gives others a chance to step up. Rishabh will be missed for the rest of the season because players like (Jasprit) Bumrah, Rishabh, and Shreyas can’t be replaced in franchise tournaments where the best players are given to each team. I think this is a chance for someone to get better, just like Rishabh did when MS Dhoni left the team. That’s how people make players. You can see that Shubman Gill is getting better and that Rutu Gaikwad is playing well, so it’s a chance. “We will miss Rishabh, but what’s most important is that he gets better,” Ganguly told reporters.
Ganguly also supported batters Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan after Mark Wood quickly got rid of them in their first game of the IPL 2023 against Lucknow. Warner’s DC team lost by 50 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. They were asked to chase down a difficult total of 193 in 20 overs. They only got 143/9.
