Some Unknown Facts about Babar Azam 

• Babar Azam is a Pakistani top-order batsman who captains Pakistan in all formats of international cricket. Many cricket experts and enthusiasts see him as one of Pakistan’s best batsmen, and with good reason.

• Babar Azam began his career in Lahore, where he played age-group cricket under the watchful eye of his coach, Mansoor Hameed, who trained him at YuSlim Cricket Club. Mansoor Hameed recalls Babar’s stay at the club during his formative years in an interview. He stated-:

“When Babar first came to our club, he was a very shy kid.” When he first joined the club, he battled for two months since he was still adjusting. But once he was situated, it was tough to get him out. He used this strategy from the beginning and is now following the same hard effort and job schedule.”

• Babar Azam used to exercise with his two cousins, a buddy, and others at 10 a.m. at the Lahore location of Model Town Park, which took them an hour to go to. In the park, Babar used to erect practice nets and work out diligently.

• Babar Azam told a fascinating tale of how her mother threw away all of her funds to aid him because he didn’t have the money to buy a bat.

•During a Pakistan vs. South Africa Test match that was telecast live in 2007, Babar Azam made a brief appearance. As a ball boy, JP Duminy hit a six-run shot during the 42nd over of South Africa’s innings, and Babar made a spectacular grab to stop it. The catch garnered praise from match commentator Lan Bishop.

• At the age of 14, Babar Azam made his debut in international cricket during the ICC Under-15 World Tournament in 2008. • At the age of 15, Babar Azam made his domestic cricket debut for his team ZTBL against Pakistan Customs in a List-A match for the Royal Bank of Scotland Cup. He struck 10 boundaries and a six as he scored 68 runs off of 78 balls. With six wickets remaining, ZTBL comfortably won the game.

• Babar Azam has participated in 144 List-A games, scoring 6724 runs at an average of 54.66 runs and an 86.20 percent strike rate. Babar’s career high in this format was 142 runs, and he has amassed 23 centuries and 35 half-centuries. In his domestic List-A season, Babar averaged 80.25 runs per game.

• On December 10, 2010, Babar Azam made his first-class debut for his team, ZTBL, against the National Bank of Pakistan in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division One in Sialkot. He was 16 years old at the time. As the game finished in a draw, Babar’s debut performance included a half-century.

• Babar Azam has participated in 69 first-class games, scoring 4181 runs with an average of 41.81 runs per game and a strike rate of 56.99. His highest total in this style was 266 runs, and he has amassed 8 centuries and 28 half-centuries.

• On December 1, 2012, Babar Azam made his T20 debut for Lahore Eagles against Hyderabad Hawks in the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup at Lahore. Babar took one wicket with the bat in hand in that game despite not getting the chance to bat.

• With a strike rate of 128 and 6304 runs scored at an average of 45.02 in 177 T20 games, Babar Azam has a batting average of 45.02. In this style, Babar has scored 122 runs, five centuries, and 51 half-centuries.

• On May 31, 2015, in Lahore, Babar Azam played in his first one-day international. He faced Zimbabwe. He made his Gaddafi Stadium debut; therefore, it was a special game for him. Babar made his debut with a half-century; however, owing to unfavorable playing circumstances, the game ended in a “No Result.”

• Babar Azam has played 80 One-Day Internationals and scored 3808 runs at an average of 56.83 runs per match. Babar has 13 ODI hundreds and 17 ODI half-centuries in international cricket. He was the joint-fastest player to score 1000 ODI runs and the second-fastest to score 2000 ODI runs. In one-day internationals, he has the third-best batting average of 56.83.

• On September 30, 2016, Babar Azam struck his first century against the West Indies in Sharjah. He made 120 runs off 131 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. Pakistan won that game, and Babar was named Man of the Match for his great performance. It was one of his most memorable performances.

• Babar Azam achieved three ODI hundreds in a row against the West Indies, becoming the first player in history to do so.

• On October 13, 2016, Babar Azam made his Test debut against the West Indies at the Dubai Sports City (DSC). He scored 69 runs in the first inning and 21 runs in the second. Pakistan won the Day/Night match by a margin of 56 runs. Babar was one of only a handful of players to make their Test debut in the Day/Night match.

• For Pakistan, Babar Azam has participated in 33 Test matches, scoring 2169 runs at an average of 42.52 runs. He has amassed five centuries and 16 half-centuries, with 143 runs serving as his highest total in this format.

• On September 7, 2016, Babar Azam played in his first T201 match against England in Manchester. Only 135 runs were scored by England, who went on to lose the game by nine wickets.

• Babar Azam has made 2035 runs at an average of 47.32 in 54 T201 for Pakistan. 18 half-centuries and one century have been chronicled by Babar. He holds the T201 record for the fourth-most runs scored by a captain in an inning.

• After defeating India in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, Pakistan won their first international trophy in 25 years. Babar produced a respectable knock of 46 runs from 52 balls and had a competitive average of 44.33.

•  Babar Azam was an important player for Pakistan during their World Cup campaign. In the tournament’s second encounter, Babar Azam scored a crucial run for his team against the hosts, England. He scored 63 runs on 66 pitches.

• In terms of his performance, Babar Azam had a standout World Cup. He broke Javed Miandad’s record for the most runs scored by a Pakistani batsman during a Cricket World Cup campaign by amassing 473 runs at an average of 67.61 runs per game. Against India, South Africa, and New Zealand, Babar scored 48 runs, 69 runs, and 127 runs, respectively.

• In a match against New Zealand, Babar Azam achieved the first century in Cricket World Cup history. In the Cricket World Cup match against Bangladesh, he came up only 4 runs short of recording his second century. Speaking to the media regarding the match against New Zealand, Babar said:

” This is my greatest inning, I think. In the second half, the wicket became much more challenging and turned frequently. The goal was to complete the task and give it my all. ” 

• Babar Azam was chosen to lead the Pakistan ODI team immediately after the 2019 ICC World Cup. Following his selection as the ODI captain, Babar struck four half-centuries in six ODI games, averaging 89.80 with a strike rate of 102.98. In his third ODI encounter as skipper, he scored a remarkable 125 runs against Zimbabwe.

• Pakistan won their second-ever ODI series in South Africa thanks to Babar Azam’s outstanding 94-run performance in a decisive game against the South African team.

• In April 2021, the ICC’s ODI rankings placed Babar Azam as the top ODI batsman. Virat Kohli came in second with 857 points, followed by Rohit Sharma with 825 points, while Babar took the top spot with 865 points.

• Babar Azam announced in June 2021 that he had become engaged to her paternal cousin, following in the footsteps of legendary figures like Shahid Afridi and Saeed Anwar.

• He claimed he would want to hit six on Mark Wood in a rapid-fire round.

• Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, two members of the cricket squad, became the first athletes to enroll in the esteemed executive education program at Harvard Business School in May 2023. Regarding this success, Azam stated,

“My motivation for enrolling in this top-tier program at Harvard is to connect, explore, listen, learn, grow, and give back to the community around the world,” the applicant states.
