Axar Patel’s Little-Known Facts
Axar never intended to be a cricketer; instead, he wanted to be a mechanical engineer.
His friend Dhiren Kansara first recognized his cricketing skill when he was 15 years old and suggested he join an inter-school tournament.
His first name was spelled “Akshar,” but due to a mistake by his school principal, he spelled it “Axar” on his school leaving certificate, and he has been using this name since.
Because he wasn’t physically ready when he started playing cricket, his father was concerned about how he would handle the physical demands of the sport. In order to join a gym, his father enrolled him.
He began playing cricket as a batsman but later switched to bowling to improve his chances of playing for India.
Just after being chosen for the Gujarat U-19 team in 2010, he was involved in an accident. During the holiday break around Diwali, he suffered a leg injury at home, and as a result, he was out for the entire campaign. He contemplated quitting cricket during this time, but his grandmother’s desire to see him play on television motivated him to return.
In his first Ranji Trophy season (2012), he only participated in one game, but in the 2013-14 campaign, he was among Gujarat’s most reliable performers, scoring 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and claiming 29 wickets at an economy rate of 23.58 in seven games.
He received the 2014 “BCCI Under-19 Cricketer of the Year” honor.
He didn’t get the chance to play in any games during his first IPL season (IPL-6, 2013), but he did get a position in the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) lineup thanks to his success in the 2013 Ranji Trophy season. He had a standout season in his first year with Kings XI Punjab in the IPL-7 (2014), taking 16 wickets at a 6.22 economy rate.
In the IPL7, he received the “Emerging Player of the Tournament” honor.
