Arjun Tendulkar makes much-awaited IPL debut for MI; Sachin, Rohit have intense chat, Sara cheers from the stands

Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, has been waiting a long time for his IPL debut. He will make his debut in the match against KKR.

Arjun Tendulkar’s long wait is finally over. On Sunday, he will make his IPL debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He is the son of famous India batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Since they both played for the Mumbai Indians, they will be the first father and son to have both played in the IPL. The last time Sachin played in the league was in 2013. Before the 2021 season, Arjun was bought by Mumbai Indians at an auction for a starting price of INR 20 lakhs. A year later, Arjun had two bidders at the mega sale for the 2022 season. Both the Gujarat Titans and MI raised their paddles before he was sold back to MI for INR 30 lakhs. But even though he had been in the team for years, he didn’t get his first cap until Sunday, April 16, 2023.

Before the toss, Arjun was seen having a serious talk with his father, Sachin, who has been involved with the club for a long time, first as a player and now as a coach. Later, regular captain Rohit Sharma joined the conversation with Sachin. He wasn’t in the first XI for the match against KKR because he had a “stomach bug,” as stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav explained. The two tried to encourage the 23-year-old before his debut at the famous Wankhede Stadium. Sara, who is Arjun’s sister, was also seen sitting in the stands.

In the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the all-rounder played his first T20 game for Mumbai. He ended with 1 for 34 in three overs. The next year, he moved to Goa for the domestic season of 2022–23. On his Ranji Trophy start against Rajasthan as the No. 7 batter, he made a hundred. He also did well for the team when they played with white balls. By the end of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was tied for the most wickets taken. At an average of 32.37, Arjun had taken eight wickets in seven games. In seven games for Goa in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the left-handed pacer took 10 wickets at a rate of 5.69 per game.

The stand-in captain for Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar, won the toss and chose for KKR to bat first in the match. “Would love to bowl first, as it looks like the ground is dry. “Later, the ball comes on nicely to the bat,” he said.

On the other hand, KKR didn’t do anything different for the game.

“The mood in the locker room is good, but our bowling needs to get better. We think we can go for 200–210. I think the ball might change direction in the second innings. A tournament can’t be won by just one player, because it’s a team sport. Everyone is getting runs, which is good for us. The KKR captain, Nitish Rana, said, “We’ll try to score around 180 on this wicket. We’re playing with the same team.”
